Expatriates in drug violence-riddled Mexico: Stay or go?

 The Violence is Moving South
The situation here has been extremely tense, especially after the May 9, 2012 incident. The businesses have been closing early and the people in general have barricaded themselves in their homes. The streets are significantly less busy than normal. It is hoped that this will blow away, however time will tell. USA TODAY has an article on the subject.

 Army on Patrol
Federal Police on Patrol
Some of the villagers have taken the matter in their own hands and have patrolled themselves to protect themselves from the "bad guys". Rocks, clubs, bells and whistles are now in the arsenal of their protection, as well as the Army and Federal Police.

The Parade

Spent the day with friends in Amacueca for the Annual Festival of Pitaya (cactus fruit). The small village comes to life with thousands of people partaking in the festivities. Dozens of buses were seen at the entrance of the village bringing visitors from the surrounding area to Amacueca. It was hot and loud, but a lot of fun...can't wait till next year!
