Hummingbirds of Ajijic

Here is a short video of the hummingbirds in our backyard. You can hear the chirps of the birds, as well as the sound of the rainbirds in the background. The rainbirds are actually cicadas that bury themselves in the ground and come out every 17 years to mate and then die! They do this just before the rainy season. It is said that 6 weeks after the first sound of the rainbirds, one can expect the rains to begin.

The Day of the Construction Workers

Here is a pic of our Construction Crew on the Day of the Holy Cross!

We enjoyed a beer with our Construction Crew on the Day of the Holy Cross! These are the men who are responsible for our new home. Norberto, our builder and architect, is the one in the centre wearing a white T shirt seen with a goatee.

A dramatic volley of thousands of joyful cohetes (skyrockets) shatters the midnight calm on May 3rd each year. Construction crews in every Mexican village shoot off the booming skyrockets to announce the arrival of their feast day, the Day of the Holy Cross or El Dia de Santa Cruz. This macho rivalry between workers continues sporadically all night and for most of the following 24 hours.

Our Trip to Tonala

Tonala, near Guadalajara, is a town whose factories actually produce many of the crafts sold in Tlaquepaque and around the World. On Sundays and Thursdays, a large part of the town becomes a large arts and craft street market.
A local glass shop in Tonala with its' many coloured works.

Good enough to eat.
A great fish restaurant to have some lunch.
Are we done yet!? The temperature was in the high 30's.
